Specialist in Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injections (ICSI)
Specialist in IVF and Fertility
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is a specialized fertility treatment where a single healthy sperm is directly injected into a mature egg to facilitate fertilization. This technique is particularly effective for overcoming severe infertility issues in males or females.
ICSI is often recommended after a failed IVF attempt or in cases of male infertility, such as low sperm count or poor sperm motility. It offers hope for couples striving to achieve pregnancy and begin their journey into parenthood.
How ICSI Works:
- Ovarian Stimulation: The female partner undergoes ovarian stimulation using fertility medications to encourage the development of multiple mature eggs within a specific timeframe.
- Egg Retrieval: Mature eggs are retrieved using a minimally invasive vaginal ultrasound-guided procedure and stored in the embryology laboratory.
- Sperm Selection: Healthy, live sperm are carefully separated from non-motile sperm using advanced techniques.
- Injection: A single healthy sperm is injected into each mature egg under a microscope.
- Embryo Development: Fertilized eggs are monitored, and the best-quality embryos are selected for transfer to the uterus.
- Embryo Transfer: The selected embryo is placed into the uterus through the cervix. If additional viable embryos are available, they can be frozen for future attempts.
Success and Considerations:
- ICSI is essential for cases of male infertility with abnormal semen analysis and is increasingly chosen by patients due to its high success rates in fertilization.
- Fertilization rates with ICSI range from 70–80%, with 8 out of 10 injected eggs typically fertilizing under laboratory conditions.
A pregnancy test is conducted 14 days after embryo transfer during the luteal phase.
